ABS-CBN's 'TV Patrol' Returns Home to Channel 2 Amidst Partnership with ALLTV

The renowned news program "TV Patrol" from ABS-CBN has moved to ALLTV, which is owned by tycoon Manny Villar. This represents a big change in the media environment. After this change, many cherished Kapamilya programs will be airing again on free-to-air Channel 2 on May 13, which will bring back fond memories for loyal viewers.

Tuesday, April 23, at the Brittany Hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, marked the formal signing of a contract between media conglomerate ABS-CBN and Advanced Media Broadcasting System (AMBS), the operator of ALLTV. Prominent members of the two organizations were in attendance: from the Villar group, there were Manny Villar, Paolo Villar, Camille Villar, Senator Mark Villar, Maribeth Tolentino, and Cecille Bernardo; from ABS-CBN, there were Mark Lopez, Carlo Katigbak, Cory Vidanes, and Bobby Barreiro.

ABS-CBN made the announcement in a statement that ALLTV viewers may look forward to prime-time and all-day access to iconic Kapamilya teleseryes from JeepneyTV as well as the most recent news from "TV Patrol." No specifics about the ALLTV schedule have been released yet.

Notably, the return of "TV Patrol" to its previous channel on the network began on April 15. The CEO and president of ABS-CBN, Carlo Katigbak, recognized the nostalgic value attached to the return of Kapamilya shows to Channel 2. He did, however, stress the significance of continuing on and concentrating on their dedication to public service.

Regarding the partnership between ABS-CBN and ALLTV, Camille Villar expressed optimism and expressed hope that it would lead to more partnerships. This scenario is consistent with the past ABS-CBN's frequency ownership of ALLTV, which shut down on May 5, 2020, under a closure order issued by the National Telecommunications Commission. There was controversy around ABS-CBN's decision to not renew its franchise in 2020, which included its free TV frequencies. Allegations of political motives have been raised.

After being granted clearance for a franchise renewal in 2019, AMB System Inc., a company connected to the Villar group, assumed control of the television broadcast frequencies that ABS-CBN had previously controlled in January 2022.
