Visayas, Mindanao Power Spot Prices Near ₱20/kWh

 DAVAO CITY — Electricity spot prices in the Visayas and Mindanao surged in August, approaching ₱20 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), as tighter power supply met higher electricity demand.

Spot prices in the Visayas rose 64.9% to ₱18.59/kWh, from ₱11.29/kWh in July.

In Mindanao, prices climbed 88.2% to ₱19.56/kWh, up from ₱10.39/kWh the previous month.

Luzon recorded a different trend, with spot prices falling 34.2% to ₱4.80/kWh, from ₱7.30/kWh in July.

The sharp increases in the Visayas and Mindanao were attributed to tighter power supply conditions amid increased electricity demand.

The latest spot market prices are expected to be reflected in consumers’ electricity bills this month.
