Senior women in the Philippines have been increasingly falling prey to romance scams, with devastating consequences. These scams involve individuals posing as potential romantic partners, often through online dating websites, and then exploiting their victims financially. While the scammers’ identities may seem elusive, investigations have revealed that many of them originate from other countries. The method of operation for romance scams is frequently the same: con artists establish intimacy and trust with their victims, frequently through regular communication and online interactions, and then ask for money for a variety of causes, including a medical emergency, a business opportunity, or travel costs to meet in person.
