Surviving an Earthquake: Key Safety Measures

Earthquakes are natural disasters that can occur unexpectedly and with catastrophic impact. Being prepared and knowing what to do during an earthquake can dramatically improve your chances of survival and safety. Here are some important tips to follow: Photo by: Emirhan Emiroğlu 1. Drop, Cover, and Hold On! When you feel the ground shake, instantly drop to your hands and knees to avoid being knocked over. Protect yourself against falling debris by taking cover under a substantial piece of furniture, such as a table or desk.  Hold on to the furniture to keep yourself safe and prevent further injuries. 2. Stay indoors. (case-to-case basis) If you are indoors and an earthquake strikes, stay there. Attempting to evacuate a building during an earthquake is particularly perilous owing to falling debris.
