Quiapo Church Issues Guidelines for Traslacion 2024
As the Traslacion for the Feast of the Black Nazarene approaches on January 9, 2024, Quiapo Church has provided critical rules for devotees to ensure the procession runs smoothly.
The Traslacion, a famous tradition that marks the procession of the 400-year-old black picture of Jesus Christ from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church, has been suspended for the past three years because of the COVID-19 outbreak. With its comeback this year, Quiapo Church has stressed the importance of adhering to the following reminders:
Don'ts:
1. To avoid disturbing the view, devotees are absolutely forbidden from climbing the andas, the chariot bearing the Black Nazarene figure.
2. Pushing other participants during the procession is strongly discouraged to avoid injuries.
3. Devotees are encouraged not to carry too many possessions or huge suitcases. For simple inspection, transparent bags are recommended.
Do's:
Children and those suffering from illnesses are encouraged to remain on the sidelines for their safety.
Devotees are encouraged to eat before the start of Traslacion to ensure they have enough energy for active involvement.
Devotees are allowed to throw handkerchiefs and towels at the Black Nazarene figure at Quiapo Church. Carrying the pingga (lever) and tugging the rope are permitted, but must be done in a systematic and cautious manner.
Backpacks and water bottles, unless transparent, as well as umbrellas and bull hats, are prohibited. To reduce the risk of communicable diseases, the masses will compel physical separation.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has not yet identified any significant or serious threats to the event. The PNP, on the other hand, will impose limits in the restricted areas surrounding Quiapo Church, including the streets and roads next to the chapel.
The Black Nazarene feast is expected to draw a crowd of 2 million people. The PNP intends to deploy over 15,000 police officers to safeguard the event's security, with over 5,600 initially deployed during Traslacion. Devotees are encouraged to follow these instructions to ensure a safe and meaningful celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
